Welcome Message and Introduction

Welcome to New Sathorn International School (NSIS) Preschool.
Here in the NSIS we are committed to providing a solid foundation for your child's education. We know that this is an extremely important stage of learning and is the vital foundation upon which further schooling will build.

Our goals are to foster a genuine love of learning in our students and to develop their natural interests and abilities.

We firmly believe in a strong partnership between parents and the school. We send home parent-teacher communication books every week to keep families informed about what we are doing in class and any special events.

We also encourage family participation in our shows, celebrations and cultural events.

Our Preschool is a four year program, with Nursery, Kindergarten 1, 2 and 3 classes. We accept children from 20 months for our Nursery class, but children may enter the Preschool at any time throughout the Academic Year depending upon availability of places.

Preschool classes are small in size with excellent student-teacher ratios to ensure close personal attention for each student. In addition, all classes have their own teacher's assistants.

Preschool Curriculum

Our curriculum is fully integrated and truly international, adapted to provide a holistic enquiry based education for our students. We work on a thematic basis, employing cross-curricular integration wherever possible.

Different learning areas include: Language Arts, Math, Explore your World (Science/Health and Social Sciences), Physical Education, Swimming, Thai Culture and Language, Music, Drama & Dance, Information and Communication Technology (Computers), Bible Studies and Art.

Language Arts

We place great emphasis upon building strong language and literacy skills and aim to instill a genuine love of reading. Opportunities for children to develop their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills are provided through songs, games, role-play and story sessions.

Math

Mathematical development is encouraged through stories, games, songs and hands-on activities. It includes counting, matching, sorting, measuring and working with shapes and patterns.

Explore your World

Science and social studies classes aim to increase children's knowledge and understanding of the world around them. This is done through a variety of media such as books and computers and especially hands-on activities such as sand and water play and cooking activities. We work on a thematic basis and employ a cross-curricular approach so that as many activities as possible are related to the current theme.

Information and Communication Technology (ICT)

Our Kindergarten students have access to a fully-equipped computer laboratory which they use for timetabled ICT classes and any special projects. ICT initially focuses on developing basic computer skills such as mouse control and keyboard use. Students are then introduced to some of the different uses of computers such as word processing, research and communication. We use a variety of educational software and websites to develop these skills and also build language, math and science abilities.

Physical Education

Kindergarten students have Physical Education and swimming lessons with specialized teachers every week. Physical Education Lessons cover gymnastics, ball skills and team games. Swimming Lessons focus on building confidence in the water, safety and learning correct breathing and swimming technique. There are also lots of opportunities for outside play in the garden with climbing frames, mini-goalposts and mini-basketball court. Nursery students also have one lesson of Physical Education with a specialized teacher each week. In addition they have physical play in the front garden and in the nursery play room which is equipped with a very popular ball pond! Nursery 'swimming' takes place in paddling pools in the school garden.

Creative Development

At NSIS we believe that creative development is very important and children are given the opportunity to express themselves creatively across the curriculum. Children undertake a variety of different art projects related to their topics of study throughout the year. These employ a variety of media such as pastels, crayons, paints, collage, dough, paper mache and clay.

Preschool children also have music, drama and dance lessons. These are used to learn new songs, experiment with different instruments and learn about things such as rhythm and beat. Students also use these classes to prepare for shows and productions.

Thai Language and Culture

Thai language lessons focus on the acquisition of fundamental language skills through songs, games and play. Children learn basic vocabulary and everyday phrases such as greetings. They also learn to recognize and write the characters of the Thai alphabet. In addition to language skills, these lessons also aim to increase our students' awareness of the culture and country within which they live. Children are taught about Thai customs and enjoy celebrating important Thai festivals such as Loy Krathong, Wan Wai Kru and Songkran.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Field trip destinations are selected to tie in with topics of study and to provide students with the chance to further their understanding of the world around them. Private music lessons are also available for students after school for a variety of different instruments.
